LANSING, Mich. (News 10) — Hundreds of people impacted by gun violence showed up at the Michigan Capitol for Community Violence Intervention Day on Thursday.

Community intervention groups like FORCE Detroit — also known as Faithfully Organizing Resources for Community Empowerment — specializes in gun violence intervention and prevention.

Advocates used their voices at the Capitol to show lawmakers that what they’re doing makes a difference. FORCE Detroit’s Community Intervention Day brought attention to lawmakers about the success community-led solutions to violence can have.

Advocates like Latina Mack, who lost her son to gun violence in 2023, said FORCE helped carry her through her darkest time.

FORCE Detroit said CVI Day is more than just an event — it’s a call to action. The event spotlighted how prevention, healing and support builds the pathway to long-term safety and wellness.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is urging people affected by gun violence to use its injury and violence data dashboards to help develop community-specific prevention programs.
